Office Hours:
As posted at the top of the course!
Office hours for the week will be posted at the top of the course. Office hours are subject to change. If our hours ever need to change suddenly, the new hours will be listed at the top of the course and an email will be sent to students.
During office hours, I am available via google chat, texting, email, and our cell phone. Contact us during this time for assistance with lessons or assignments, questions, and cool stuff you want to show me.
Outside of office hours, I would be happy to schedule an appointment with you. Feel free to call, text, email, or google chat me any time during the day. I’ll get back to you as soon as possible if you have to leave me a message.

Materials Needed:
You will need your laptop, a webcam, and a microphone. You will also need to have the programs Notepad, Filezilla, and a Web browser such as Firefox or Chrome, which are already installed on your school laptop. Because all assignments and lessons will involve the computer, I would recommend getting a USB (or wireless) mouse so that you don't have to use your laptop touchpad. Using a mouse is more convenient and will allow you to complete your assignments more efficiently.
Technology Failure:
No technology is infallible. Because of this you would be wise to keep backup copies of everything you submit to me. I will make an effort to backup the entire course on a regular basis but your work is ultimately your responsibility.
For your own sake, I recommend that you:
Assignments:
Web Design is an elective class and will have 2-4 lessons per week with corresponding activities, assignments, and/or quizzes for each lesson. The course is designed around weeks and most assignments will be assigned on Mondays and will be due the following Monday by 9 AM. The work load per week will be on average 4-5 hours per week. At the beginning of each week, you will be required to read/watch an intro to the week. If you stay on top of deadlines, you will do fine in this class.
Late Work Policy:
All work for the current week is due the following Monday by 9 am. I would strongly encourage you to complete your course work during the week. If you are finishing work for the previous week on Sunday nights, you will always be playing catch up. This is stressful and does not allow you to do thoughtful work.
MHA school-wide late work policy:
If there is an emergency, you are more than welcome to contact me in a timely manner to discuss deadlines and options. However, emailing me at the last second is not considered timely or being personally responsible. This work would be considered late.
Grading:
Grades will be calculated as a percentage based on points and the following weighted categories:
Etiquette Policy:
As you are working in this course, please keep your choice of topics and language appropriate and PG rated. This course also requires you to work in groups, participate in forums, and communicate with your teacher and peers. Mountain Heights Academy is unique and requires its students to know, understand and practice on-line “netiquette”.
Extra Credit:
There will be occasional extra credit opportunities available.

MHA school-wide late work policy:
- Assignments are due the week they are assigned; however, there is an additional 1 day grace period during which assignments will be accepted for full credit.
- Technically, this means you have from Monday through Tuesday of the next week at 9am to get all assignments turned in.
- Assignments turned in after the week and a day window (1 assigned week + 1 day grace period) will not be given credit.
- Additional extensions can be given for excused absences, such as vacations or extended illness; however, these must be arranged with the school administration and individual teachers.
- Once you get current by Friday of a week, you can go back and turn in things that you missed and got a 0 on, or any assignment that you want to resubmit for a higher grade.
- Email missing assignments to your teacher so she can manually grade them.
- Quizzes are the only exception to this rule - they will not be able to be retaken, so make sure you study hard the first time. If you have a 0 on a quiz because you didn't take it, you can email your teacher for the password once you are caught up with the current week by Friday, but you can only take it once.
If there is an emergency, you are more than welcome to contact me in a timely manner to discuss deadlines and options. However, emailing me at the last second is not considered timely or being personally responsible. This work would be considered late.

This course also requires you to work in groups, participate in forums, and communicate with your teacher and peers. - Avoid “text” speak—LOL, ICW, BFF, IDK
- Address the person you intend to speak to at the beginning of your message.
Mrs. Andersen, Do you have some time to help me with the LA essay that is due next week?
- Use correct grammar and complete sentences in messages and forums.
- Be polite and positive when participating in forums and writing messages. Treat your instructor and peers with respect.
- Avoid using capital letters and excessive exclamation marks in your emails as it is considered yelling in the online world.
- This is an online classroom, but it is still a classroom and subject to the courtesies of a regular classroom. Any comments or behaviors that would be inappropriate in traditional classroom are likely to be inappropriate in this course.
- Realize that one of the unique features of online high school is that a majority of our communication happens in written form. It is easy for text to be misinterpreted because we cannot see the facial expression of the writer. Be clear in your communications and think carefully about your comments/messages before posting or clicking the send button.
